pi-star
Overview
What pi-star is and how it shares data with pi.
A local-first pi workbench
pi-star is a local web workbench for the pi coding agent. The interface comes from pi-web, while the server is rebuilt in Rust + Axum. Sessions, settings and model credentials stay in ~/.pi/agent, so pi-star, the pi CLI and pi-web can read the same data.
It is for people who want one browser workspace for agent sessions, files, Git, terminals and model settings without adding a cloud service.
What it does
- Browse and search pi’s JSONL sessions with branches, fork, rename, export and stats
- File tree, preview and upload; Git status, diff and worktrees
- Chat, model selection, thinking level, tool selection and compaction
- A PTY terminal with SSE output
- A local web console and a Tauri desktop app
- Two backends: standard PI (Node.js
pi --mode rpc) and QuickPI (in-process)
Open source
pi-star is MIT licensed and has no private edition. A release binary can run on its own without the repository’s UI directory.
Relationship with QuadHub
pi-star works entirely on its own. If you already use QuadHub’s Token service, you can point model requests at QuadHub for unified metering and quotas. Without QuadHub, keep your own providers and API keys. See Optional QuadHub Token.
